    Default "Reel" quicky @ LP 09 02 19

High School buddy is out from Florida (dodging hurricanes) - had time for a couple of hours this morning. Kept a half dozen for lunch. Buddies lovely lady friend is going to show me how it's done. Lake lice showed up early so we didn't get too much time on the pond.

Nice catch. I've had no time the past 4 days. On a college football weekend I would have to deal with BIG lake lice. The VOL Navy, and or Alabama Navy constantly locking through below the dam I fish will come close to sinking you...many 65 footers and a few 80 footers. Be this way all fall now.........I've got the weekdays. Pretty colors on those fish.

    Regards

i would take a quess and say that the fish your buddy is holding in his left hand on the bottom picture is a hybrid green sunfish ???...the alabama record for green sunfish is over a pound ....it is so much fun doing the blue-gill , bream , thing... i use to think only catching huge catfish ( or maybe what i thought was huge ) was the only way to have fun fishing.....and never even really took the time to examine the fish that i caught ....i only had time to jug fish on the weekends at night , and it was chaseem down, catchem , throw em in the cooler and on to the next jug....dont get me wrong , it was really fun , in-between eating bugs......but since i retired and have the time to go out at daylight and fish at any speed i like , it is a different world !!!!...and being able to observe everything around me , and take the time to really look at the pretty fish that i catch , has brought a new appreciation to nature and the fish that nature provides me so that i may enjoy them....now i understand what i was missing , in being in such a rush all the time , and not taking the time to respect and appreciate what nature provided me !!!!

Sounds like you are adapting well to retirement. You surely hit that nail square!

    thnx for the comments guys
Lunch was awesome - CNBG fried with soy sauce & ginger and steamed CNBG - won't attempt to spell the greens... I was shown how it's done.

I start using both blade and no blade - if the fish start hitting one or the other more - then I'll switch to both the same. If it's the blades - then you have to figure out which blade.... Most times it doesn't matter.

I would probably still be fishing Baja bluewater or going down to Costa Rica with Mike (HS buddy) if I wasn't medically retired almost 10 years ago. Chasing big Bluegill on ultra lite gear keeps the flame lit.

Crazy question. Did any of those fish have eggs?

Very nice fish. I’m between boats so I have none to fish from. It’s coming soon though. Seeing the good gills makes my ambition stay strong.

......way back when i first started fishing , mostly for anything that would hit what we threw , ( which was rooster tails , meps , all of them had spinners ) .. we caught mostly blue-gill , sunfish , little stuff .....then i got into bass , with the bigger lures , and still liked the big clothes-pin type spinners , then i got into catfish and lures faded into the darkness.....now i am back !!! into blue-gill , and people told me to use the plain jigs , but they just did not seem to do anything , i mean you could not even feel a thing when you reeled them in !!! i have since learned better , and even just plain old jigs give a vibration coming through the water , even tho it sure don't feel like it , ........but it was built into me from a long time ago , that spinning shiny things are good !!!!.....so spinners are a hard habit for old dogs to break ....
