After a nice vacation (non fishing) last week it was good to get back on the water and catch a Panfish or two. I stuck some nice Crappie earlier in the week, they were deep and very hungry. However, Gills are my favorites so I did a quick excursion for the little buggers on Friday and finally have some free time for the report. I missed the Full Moon week in May, so I knew I would probably find empty beds with a few guard males hopefully still wanting to play. Sure enough, the shallow pickings were slim, I resorted to fishing boat docks and concrete ramps to get bit, mainly by small to medium size fish, but fun all the same. I did scratch out a few keepers, and the Majorcraft Triple Cross with the Berkeley Fireline Crystal in 2lb got the call. A friend of mine from work gave me a Diawa Gekajibin Light game jig head in the 1/32 oz size to try, man they are sharp. The biggest Gill I caught swallowed the jig, a first for me in a long time. I cut the line, threw him in the livewell and added 6 more decent keeper friends to the count and called it a morning.

?Very girthy and darkly colored, this is the average size for the large reservoirs in this area, and perfect size for the fryer. But, my Bluegill day was not over. A buddy of mine that lives on a nearby lake called and wanted to try to find some Gills in his cove that he lives in, so off I go Friday evening to show him the ropes and hopefully find some more fishies to play. I stopped and bought some crickets to ensure we would get bit, and within site of his house we hit cuts, grass, points and gravel areas in search of our quarry. We stuck a bunch, 40 at least of all sizes but most were small to medium sized 3-6 inch males and females. We did find one decent bedding area that still had a few bruisers home tending house, and doubled with two nice 8+inch specimens.

All fish in the afternoon session were released, he wants to take his wife back later in the month when the Moon gets full and sore lip them again, hopefully they will cooperate. A long but fun day and try to get out there, they are still biting!!
