Does anyone on this forum raise Red Wigglers? What tips do you have?

    Thanks.

My dad, uncle, and grandfather all have fishing camps and they raise their own worms, shiners, and crickets. My dad uses a large old deepfreezer, and filled it with several layers of rich soil, seperated with newspapers in between layers. he moistens the newspapers before laying them down. He feeds them cornmeal, veggie scraps, and occasionally more newspaper.
IMPORTANT, dont put the lid all the way down on the bed, make a wodden wedge, and insert it under the lid to let air flow into the bed. keep the dirt about half a foot below the lip of the freezer.
You can go to any appliance r3epair place and a lot of times they will give you an old non working freezer that they gutted for free, or for a small fee like $15-$25. Most of the time though, by you hauling it off, that means thats one less they dont have to haul off themselves.
My grandmother used an old fridge too, and just removed the shelves and laid it on its back on the ground. Again, remember to keep a wedge between the door and the fridge or freezer, to keep it from closing all the way.
