Our state DNR publishes a stick on measuring tape that has the size limits for fish that fall in that category. They have a fresh water and a salt water one, and reissue any time there is a change to regulations. It is durable kind of like a bumper sticker material. I took a piece of scrap plastic gutter with and end cap and affixed the tape to it with the front edge against the end cap. Works perfect and is durable and I can stick any updates right over the old tape.
When I saw his measuring board I thought that was what he had done because mine looks just like it.

Thanks Skeet.....yeah those redbreast are just beautiful. They have quite an attitude also....LOL. While I don't usually get into any of those that are big it is time to break out the super ultra light. Using that rod on those fish makes for an exciting day.

Norris Lake is about 45 minutes from me. It has a healthy population of Red ear, and every year I say I am going over there and fish for them. Been saying that for last 19 years, just never make it over there. I Bass fished Norris on a regular basis many years ago and heard the guys talk about fishing for the Crackers but just never have. Maybe this year, but it is high on my retirement list in a few years for sure.

Drive it while you can. For years I've been traveling long distance to fish. The lakes I live close to do not have decent size bluegill. Center Hill did have...and may again once they finish working on the dam...which has been ongoing for over 10 years. The closest lake for decent bluegill that I go to now is 83 miles one way. The drive is starting to wear on me. It creeps up fast on you. I may move in 2 years but it will be to the Little Red River....a trout river. If I could find a decent VRBO so my boat would stay safe I would just book one for 2-4 weeks during the bluegill spawn on the lakes I fish. That may be what it comes down to.
