Really nice gills, looking forward to catching a few like those soon. I've been tying jigs for almost 25 years and still can't get the smooth profile on these like Sonny but I keep trying. Need to find more of those gadwall flank feathers.
Thnx Ketchn - standard Do-it Chub with the barb cut off. Going back to CA mold, tired of pouring one jig at a time....

I thought I saw you out there. I was over on the east end and saw a pontoon boat around the island. Lately the bass fishing on the rock piles has been so good it is hard for me to stop and go try something completely foreign to me. Closest thing I have to the type of jigs you use is some 1/16th ounce hand tied under sins I bought from ebay. Would something like that work or would it be too heavy?
Was out today and yesterday. Can't up load pics from today. I stay mostly around the west & south side of the island. I caught some very nice CNBG last year trolling those rockpiles back there in the east end. Prankster fishes road runners all around there. Think he's using 1/32nd. I'm using 1/48th, 1/32nd, & 1/24th jigs with (most importantly) 2lb test.
Bluegill and Crappie are biting on the eastside right now.
Good to see you out fishing, Sonny. Pictures indicate that it was a little cool, for SoCal anyway.
Had s..w here yesterday.
LedHed thanked you for this post
srs, the 1/16 under spins would be perfect for the crappie in there and if you use 4lb test it should run about the same depth as the 2lb. that Sonny uses with the lighter jigs. What size hook are on the under spins? If it's a #2 it would be too big for the gills but not the crappie or bass. I've fished there before and had gills swallow jigs with a #4 hook. I've sold some under spins on ebay, maybe you got them from me. I sell tied ones on there. If crappie are biting on the east side now I would give them a shot but if you want gills you would need to downsize.
thnx fe - crazy weather, got another cold front coming through. Fish are trying to spawn, water temp is 64*F.
