For some reason that Cardiff has caught my eye. I have all Diawa JDM reels and very satisfied with my arsenal, hope to get years of trouble free service from them. I own some older Japan made Shimano Stradics in bass fishing sizes, and after many years of hard use they started binding. Now I did not service them (send off to professionals) properly, did keep them relatively cleaned (surface) and oiled, but that was about it. I know it can be a Chevy/Ford type thing as to favorites, but I am willing to try a newer JDM Shimano in hopes it would be in line with the Diawa at the comparable price point. I read the reviews of both, listen to the discussions both for and against each brand, but do not have both dogs in hand to speak, so I cannot even race them . What are your thoughts on the Cardiff if you also own a comparable Diawa?

I like the photo. If you add my Soare Ci4+ C2000SSPG to that, you'd have three nearly identical reels there. With the exception of, as you mentioned, spool and shaft bearings for improved drag performance on light lines (probably handle knob bearing as well...). Funny, Cardiff and Soare are in fact identical with the exception of cosmetic features. My Soare is a sweet reel, as I'm sure your Cardiff is, too. I might also get Complex Ci4+ from that line-up – it comes in larger sizes, which I need for my "light" gear. I read a lot of great things about this lesser known reel.

One thing about Shimano's Ci4+ series: I doubt they will feel as "free" in rotation as Daiwa (I don't have Daiwa, I only had isolated encounters with it). I read the same a few times on Russian fishing forums. A few posts went as far as saying that you had to "get used to Shimano after Daiwa". With that said, the inertia is very low in the Ci4+ series, thanks to the very light rotor, so jigging and twitching is a breeze.

Does anyone here have the 19 vanquish? I'm close to hitting the purchase button, but I'm hesitant. Seems like a nice real on paper, and the limited reviews in English seem positive. All of my reals are daiwa, and they have been solid. I have no experience with shimano, or their reliability. I'm leaning towards the c2000s, I think it would be a little more versatile than the smaller 1000 spool. I would probably pair it with the tict rockin power or corto.

I do not own one...have never held one in my hands...but I have untold hours of research on it. I have purchased 2 Shimano JDM reels...way back Shimano made the BioMaster in a 1000 series. A cheap reel but at the time I really liked it. My next Shimano purchase was the 2011 TwinPower C2000HGS. I absolutely love it. Extremely smooth....impeccable quality. I love the C models in Shimano's lineup. A Vanquish is on my list of reels to buy. I get distracted and buy other items on my way to buy something else....LOL. I have also done the research on the Vanquish FW-Tune...but in reality the new 19 Vanquish is the more prudent buy......newer technology in the reel. Most of my reels are Daiwa also but I am here to tell you dollar for dollar the Shimano reels are just as good.

For me yes....I have become a huge fan of the 1000 series reels. I have given away like new 2000 series Certate......two 2000 series 2015 Luvias.....Ignis Type R 2500 reels to my sons. No need for me to keep them as with my all new stock of 1000 series reels I would no longer use the 2000 series reels. Having said that I am keeping the Shimano compact 2000 TwinPower....

Well, I pulled the trigger on the c2000s. Was on the fence about it, but just received a 5% ebay bucks coupon. With the 9% off offer from seller, it was the cheapest I could find, in stock. I'm done with new tackle for a while after this purchase! Well, besides a new trolling motor with spot lock.

I would like to say I'm done but every time I do I eat those words. But....my plan now is to try out the uber high end.....and to do that I need to slow the spending as the reels....rods.....I am looking at now are in the 500-600 dollar range. Need to save up for those.

    Regards

Can’t wait to hear what you think about it. I have also been looking at the Vanquish but looking for another 1000 series reel.

I was torn between the 1000 or 2000 series. I went for the extra capacity just in case I decide this light line business isn't going to work out for me. I have the ballistic fw1000, 2020 Livias, and now the vanquish to try out. If it comes in. I'm sure the shipping thing will be an issue this time around.
