    Default Mink play

the crappie bite in the river was slow , the mink on the other side of the river from me was entertaining me though , the weather was really nice and the bream were biting , so I tied on a bream jig and had me some fun after a few bit my crappie jig
that's my story on my lunch break and I am sticking to it

Looks like the very best way to enjoy a lunch break. I love seeing glimpses of local wildlife when I'm fishing and remember otters, beavers, owls, woodpeckers, and even friendly snake encounters long after I've forgotten the details of the fishing. I don't think I've ever seen a mink in the wild before.

cricketcage I have to say this about that , never have seen a wild river otter that I am sure was one .
seen lots of sea otters off Kodiak island years ago though .
heard tell of a group of freshwater otters at my milk run spot I hit every week in a state park west of town
sure hope I get to see them some day
as far as minks go I have not seen many in my day , the ones down at the river 3 times in the last 2 years
and before that was almost 50 years ago in Pennsylvania on a trout creek .
kind of like bobcats , they are I think fairly common but just really wary and sneaky and STINKY
minks that are regular in an area leave a tell tale skunk odor around the banks , I do know that much

I used to fish below Cordell Hull Dam a lot. I would catch a white bass....a drum.....and just toss it about 3 feet from me in the rocks. That place had so many mink they would always come out and drag the fish back in under the rocks. Yes they do stink....LOL.

Great lunch break !! I'm sure the mink would have loved a couple of those sunnies. I had one try to steal a trout off my stringer once. Very persistent, I'd chase him off and it would come back a minute later. Should have given it a smaller one but it would have counted toward my limit.

yeah I managed to trap the first one I ever encountered as a kid back when just because it was so persistent . I wasn't good at trapping when I was young but that mink wouldn't quit hitting my baits till I ketched it .
it was up north and that thing was about the size of an otter ….man was it a big mink and super plush .
had that skin for 20 plus years and lost it somewhere on my travels ….
of course I have not trapped in 40 years but I still remember me and that mink going at it for a week or so .
fun times it was trying to be smarter than a mink ….
I did see the one across the river ketch him a sunfish though in the shallow water on the other side
there are a ton of sunfish along that concrete over on that side .
