Digging up this old thread. Anyone try one of these yet? I have the 7ft sitting on my rod rack. Can't wait to get out this year.
I think one of our board sponsors are carrying these rods now, Fish USA.

I think maybe one of our members up North reported on using one. I look forward to your review. I have the previous Panfish Model, 7ft one piece. Nice all around rod for the money, caught a lot of fish on it.
I had a local store loan me one to try in a pond. They kept going on about how there was nothing else out there in the world like it. Well....I took my shotgun case with about a half dozen JDM rods along for them to look at. After that they said “We didn’t realize there were rods like these”. Here is my take on the 64 model I used for a few bluegill. It beats out any other UL rod sold in the states hands down. It is not easy to compare it to JDM rods...meaning there is nothing straight up to compare with. It is softer than Ajing or Mebaru rods. It is close to an area trout rod but not exactly. The area trout rods I have....save for the Palms.....are faster rods. One can argue about 2 piece rods vs 1 piece rods all day long...but the fact is a 1 piece is not an advantage in a UL rod. To me 1 piece UL rods are an accident waiting to happen. I know that because I’ve broken several over the years...all in transport. Here are my thoughts in the end. For me to purchase that rod in the state of TN it will cost me a little more than $400. For that kind of money there are so many JDM rods available that it is just not an advantage to me. But I can assure you....had I never known about JDM UL rods I would have bought the St Croix.

thanks for the detailed reply! I hope to get out and fish with the new rods I picked up this winter. tict, graphiteleader, and the new Croix. I will say the Croix is probably the only one of the bunch that I would boat flip a fish with. I also have the 7 foot normal panfish series and fished the heck out of it for a couple years, I like it. the new Croix seems a little more ridged, and not quite as floppy.
How do the G Loomis rods compare to a JDM of similar price. I have a SR841 that I totally love. I can feel light bites in the wind. I need another 7’ for casting and trying to decide whether to buy another Loomis St Croix or JDM
I don't try to push JDM gear on anyone. I have many videos telling folks "Don't start down this road". I tell folks in the end all you need is a cane pole and some crickets. But here is the deal....dollar for dollar you will get a far better product out of Japan...hands down. You will need to adjust your thinking...JDM UL rods are much different than US market rods. The Japanese stay on the cutting edge of graphite rods. Have you seen any of my videos? Fishing with high end JDM rods really gives one an advantage. Right now I am eyeing some new rods that are at the $500 mark. Was on the fence about them until the virus hit. But life is short and I want to in the end experience all I can. I have helped a whole lot of folks navigate the waters of buying a JDM rod. I have never had a single person come back and tell me that it was not as good as they hoped it would be...as a matter of fact it starts folks down the road to buying several more JDM rods. Thats is why I warn folks.....as I was warned...when you buy one it won't be your last.

Any comparisons to some of the high-end Abu-Garcia stuff (Real Finesse series)?
