Had the same thought on the handle.Have a med Rod and really love it.I like casting small crank baits "shad raps" it is excellent rod for these baits.Have a 3/8 oz roostertail tied to it most of the time and 8 lb nanofil.Wanted an ultra lite but a little uneasy in our clear deep lakes with timber.Going to pull the trigger on a Ultra lite JDM.just need a little more confidence in 2 lb line.Lol.think the 2 lb nanofil will give me the confidence i need.

I don't think most people realize how strong 2# line is. Try this:
Take any UL outfit (the line doesn't matter.) Tie a loop in the end of the line. Have a friend hold a spring scale, and hook the loop to the scale. Back off thirty feet, and tighten down the drag so there's no slippage. Now, bend the rod and see how much you can pull. (Be careful because there's a good chance the rod will break before the line.)

Totally agree with the strength of 2 lb. line if it's a quality line. Probably don't make cheap 2lb. though. I use it a lot and only way I break it is if a fish wraps me up in the brush. I've caught carp close to 15 lbs with it and know of some people landing channel cats over 20 lbs on 2 lb. mono.

I thought my Tict Ice Cube was going to break on this fish. It was in a U shape as this fish pulled off about 30 yards of 2# test. This happens a lot when I’m fishing. I don’t post my smallmouth trips on here but 2# test is all I use....and have lost count of Smallies at the 21 inch mark I’ve landed with 2# line. Someone just pointed out to me I may not be getting all the benefit of my JDM rods as they are designed around specific lines. I think I agree. So as of today if I am after.....white bass.......and the rare occasion I target largemouth.......I will still be using SOS 2# test but for all other fishing.....crappie.....Gills....trout......Smalli es.......I will be getting all of my 2# test line out of Japan.....sticking with lines right at the .10mm diameter....their breaking strength is at max 2 pounds. Some will be mono.....some will be polyester.....which has zero stretch......and I will be trying Japanese PE line...braid as it is called here.

Jackie - check out izorline XXX. We use it a lot and we got some timber now!!! I think it twists a little easier then the Yo-Zuri hybrid but it casts further. Both are copolymer lines, the Yo-Zuri we use fluoresces.
