They are both in the sunfish family but are definitely different fish. (FWIW, bass are also in the sunfish family.)

    Thnx Mike

Both are panfish the same as a Bass (not a true Bass), Green Sunfish, Crappie.......

Here's the confusing part @ LP. The Red Ear have crossed with the CNBG (Coppernose Bluegill - we don't have the northern strain, like Havasu). They have also crossed with the Green Sunfish.

The Kg female (pics 7&8) is a hybrid to - check out the ear flap - has a faint tinge. I think the chest gets a bit more orange as well. When you fillet the smaller females you run across the pin bones that Red Ear have - not as thick but thicker than Bluegill's. They seem to fight a little harder too.

I think the state should run some DNA tests to see what is going on with these Frankenstein fish.....

This happens in TN but of course we don’t have copper nose. The red ear cross with the northern strain bluegill. This is more prevalent in some bodies of water more than others.

The Bluegill (Northern strain) cross with the RedEars that come from Lake Havasu are HUGE.
