Thread: 1" beetles

A great design that catches most species, but I would use a 1/32 or 1/64 oz jig head with #8 hook for that size grub. 1" grubs are okay but for open-water fish, I prefer 1.5" -2". I agree that an alternative is the Trout Magnet grub rigged on a light jig head (cheap on EBay and free s/h).

i have no clue on those , i do know the little grubs with the paddle tails i got from Charlie Brewer look like flat deadly bream bait

These have been my go to bait for years now .they work ! 1/32 casting or 1/64 under a cork will get it done ."G" is spot on .

Those style beetles work very well. A basic black one is my go to lure for bluegill and shellcrackers. I usually swim them just above the bottom using 2 lb. test, or hang them a couple feet below a bobber and slowly, very slowly reel them across shallow flats. They'll catch crappie and and some surprise bass, particularly when the water is cold. White and yellow sometimes work very well also. As mentioned above, I generally use a 1/64th, and 1/32nd jighead with them. Not sure why you're offended by the inclusion of sliders to this thread while advertising some other link. Similar lure fished in a similar manner and offers great tail action which, in my experience, tends to attract larger panfish, crappie, and bass, than the basic beetle, but the beetle (generically speaking since I have no experience with the specific brand shown) can score some very large numbers at times.

I love sliders but I would fish those in a second . lol there are no strings on my boat . As a matter of fact I plan to order some .

Because I asked about the beetle lures from my original post.
I didn't ask about charlie brewers.
Its becoming commonplace where every bait I ask about is turned into a sponsor thread.
I'm sure Mr brewer makes a fine product but this thread wasn't started to celebrate his legacy.
Plus would you want your thread to be taken over by someone else.
