    Default Trophy size redbreast?

What do you guys consider a trophy redbreast? I caught one 9" summer before last and let it go as I do all the bigger fish. I have pictures on my old phone and was thinking of sending it to this guy over on the 24hourcampfire.com and have him do a life size painting. Should I wait for a bigger one? I was thinking that they normally don't get as big as bluegills.

    Take care

They are not that common a fish in SC except in our black water rivers like the Edisto so not many catches to compare to your catch. Heck, if it was the largest one I had and I liked it why not get a painting to have as a keepsake.
There is a young lady who is a fisheries biologist here in SCDNR that is also an incredible artist. If you need a second source for your painting here is her facebook page with some of her art displayed.: https://www.facebook.com/pamela.corw...c_ref=NEWSFEED

9" is a big sunfish . A lot of places even bluegill and redear are so overfished or the habitat does not permit them to get bigger anymore. A lot of places I use to catch 9" plus fish just don't exist anymore. I think the biggest Redear I have caught are in the 12" range and they are known for being one of the bigger sunfish species. Some parts of the country they are still probably a dime a dozen...but you have to look at the region sometimes because what's plentiful or big in one place is not in another. That's why people travel far and wide to fish and hunt.

Used to have a small lake close by that had them (not sure why 'cause I've never caught them anywhere else) and I caught a lot in the 8 - 9 inch range. Don't ever remember catching any bigger though. They had a very good average size, but for some reason did not seem to get bigger than that. The state drained the lake and then refilled it and stocked it, but the redbreasts are there no more. Makes me sad.
