I caught about 8 of the ones you call shell cracker yesterday. The pond owner called them Red Ears, but they looked exactly like the ones you have there. Those things were as big as a decent crappie. Caught ours on wax worms. He said that they are a cross of a blue Gill and something else. Do y'all know what he is talking about?

Shellcracker...red ear...same thing. They are not a cross of anything...although they will cross with bluegill when they spawn in same bedding areas. Do a google search and you will see the red ear/shellcracker is a specie on it's own.

    Regards
