    Default Time to move on.

I have had a great spring this year....at Center Hill...Pickwick.....and Dale Hollow. Have caught a ton of smallmouth at Pickwick and Dale Hollow...Center Hill also. Hit the white bass run at Pickwick catching so many I couldn't keep count. Got into a bunch of great Gills at Dale Hollow but I think it is over up there for the bluegill bite. Somehow I have missed the spawn....I don't know how but I have. Fished hard today and nothing on any beds. Even my black perch are gone. I will try one more time up there next week just to make sure. It is time to hit up my other lakes for the Gills. Won't be like the Gills at Dale Hollow but time to move. Today I only had 4 Gills and one nice Smallie. But it was worth the trip catching all of them on a 3/32 ounce jig head with a Bison colored Trout Magnet body. Used my Yamaga Blanks Blue Current TZ Jig Head Special 6' 10" UL rod.....reel was spooled with SOS 2# test line. They all gave me a great fight. One Gill almost made it to 10 inches. Life is good!

Ya'lls Bluegill don't spawn every month in summer up there? Ours spawn each month through August and sometimes September. Long as the water is warm enough.

Not at Dale Hollow. It is a strange lake....it is 130 feet deep. When the Gills have their first spawn they go deep...I mean deep.....and you won't catch anymore until next spring. It is a tough lake....when it is good it is awesome....but when it is bad it is real bad. Pretty soon the only fishing done on the lake will be at night. But I know those Gills have to eat and they mostly eat insects..larvae.....so my thinking is they will move up very late in the evening off the grassy points to eat. My theory anyway...LOL. I am going to test it out June, July.

Thanks.....talked with friend last night that told me the Gills were not on bed yet at Center Hill yet...odd everywhere it seems. Also touched base with a guide of note on Dale Hollow.....he told me the Gills have not spawned there either. Tells me it will be in June....says it was same way there last year. That is great news. I didn't think I had missed the spawn up there....was up there every few days for almost 2 months. I had started second guessing myself though.

the fish you have photos of are sporting full blown spawn colors and some even have tattered fins brother .....there is a spawn going on there to some degree .
the other day I managed a dozen female bluegill that were flat popping full of eggs and not a single male fish ...don't know where the males were but I bet they were on beds in that spot . it was the first time I ever hit that spot for bream.
try other locations on the lake maybe ....? ....nice fish ya got there for sure ...good luck on your next visit
