    Default Line for redear

I am new to fishing for redear. Do you think that the hi-vis yellow line would spook them. It doesn't seem to bother crappie but like I said I'm new to this.

Most of the time no. I've only noticed one instance where it did. I used to fish with my father a lot and my preference was for yellow line. For panfish he used 4lb. blue Stren line and I used 4lb. gold Stren line. We usually fished the same bait and had about the same catch rate. One day he was out catching me 10 to 1 and as an experiment, I asked for a few feet of his line and used it as a leader. I started catching fish then and it became the last time I used yellow line. But I used it for several years with seemingly no difference prior to that day. It could have been random luck that day, but I am convinced the yellow line had a negative effect on that one day.

We like the Yo-Zuri Hybrid line for the REs. Use mostly green - can see it better. Most of the water out here is clear.

I've seen times the yellow line was outfished several times over by someone using clear or lo-vis green line for gills and redears.

I catch a lot of shellcracker. If fishing for them in clear water I use 2# test fluro leader on my main 2# test mono line. I sometimes use 2# test NanoFil...which is white....use a leader with it also. If you are happy with your hi-vis line just use a fluro leader.
