Alphahawk, I have used small crawfish when the shellcracker get that lockjaw thing. A old timer told me long time ago and it works good, when u can find the small ones.

a small piece of salted shrimp on a tiny jig has been known to be a gill killer.

Here's how it's done at Barkley Lake :

I've used a 1/16oz black jighead & a piece of nightcrawler big enough to cover the hook of the jig, and drifted the boat over the deeper Shellcracker beds ... with the jig/worm slowly bounced along the bottom ... and caught some real nice Shellcrackers from a small lake in Central KY. I've done it from the bank with a slip float at that lake, too.

A 1/64oz black jig with a crappie nibble will catch them all.

You can take the little grasshopper crankbait and wear them out with.

I prefer a 1/64 oz black hair jig but will use a1/32 with a plastic shad bait under a small bobber. Tipped with nibble or waxworm.
