Yes they work very well,at least for myself.I would add them to the arsenal, I was pleasantly surprised while fishing the overflow of a large dam,the crappie were hammering the chartreuse crickets like they were candy,go for it.

Berkeley, some off brands, and I recently bought some micro plastics from a small pourer.I fish them much like you would fish a plastic tube, often weightless.Since I'm mostly a crappie and gill getter,I at times use my extention poles, and simply swing the lure past stumps, and let the lure sink and swing alongside the stump, crappie like to hang in or against debri, the sinking lure makes for an easy meal.
When fishing pools,I use a small sinker a few inches above the lure, cast and reel slowly, again much like fishing a plastic tube.Bouncing a weighted cricket in the shallows in gill waters, are hard to beat, hope some of this helps.

The little crayfish work. Especially on the Ozark streams.
