    Default Automatic Look Alikes

    Hey Sonny - I sent my fly tying buddy a picture of your automatic jigs and he made me these. They are 1/31 football jig heads with standard hooks and a few different colors of rubber legs and some flashy material (excuse my non-fly tying terminology). What do you think? Think they will work on smaller bluegill and redear. I found a huge bed in my home lake this past year and I intend to give them a go next spring and summer. It is adjacent to some deeper water and the bed is in 6-8' FOW. I suspect it is a redear bed. We shall see...

    Those would really slay @ Lake Havasu. The football is great for bottom bouncing. Get some roundhead for swimming or float fishing and some chub or minnow for deep trolling/drifting. Hot pink is a real good color combo out here also.

    Chub & Chub Bellyspinner are two more big panfish jigs.....

    You can get the reptile rubber @ lure parts online.

    Your buddy did good

    Are those 1/31 football head jigs commercial purchase or hand poured?

    A buddy of mine has a mold and poured them. He has a business called Underbite Tackle and makes primarily bass lures.
    He just happened to have the 1/32 football head jig mold. Look him up. He may be willing to pour you some.

    I have a modified Do-it 1/32nd roundhead PRO mold. The 1/32nd roundhead actually makes a jig closer to 1/48th. The tapered mod weighs closer to the 1/32nd. The ones pictured look like the 1/16th football that Do-it offers - we tye some with out the collar for Lake Havasu (bigger hook).

    These are some of the custom molds I have;

    I don't sell jigs - there are lots of people that do and I'm not getting into someone's business. However, I do trade jigs with friends.

    Very nice Automatic ties. Nice mods Sonny. I did the football one and still have the bits I modified marked. I also just tied some Auto style jigs thinking this full moon may see some action. Has anyone tried to imitate a snail for bait? Every redear I ever cleaned had a lot of shell bits in their stomach and my live well was always full of shell bits!!

    nl - I'll PM you a list.

    if - I had Robert @ crazy angler do the mods when he was doing them. What bit did you use for your football mod? Was looking at tapered end mill bits.

    The Redear at LH eat crawdads - big crawdads! We got a small clam they like at LP. I've seen a snail pattern in Fly Tyer - couldn't remember the issue...

    Hey Sonny. Sorry to the op for stepping on this thread. This is a 1/4" bit that fits the 1/16 hole exactly. I tapered back the outside flutes to make the profile I wanted. I tested it on hard plastic till I got it where it was close and then fine tuned it pouring several shots and regrinding to make it like I wanted. I used a depth gauge on my caliper checker to get it even. Hope this helps! This was the first mold I made a wire keeper in so please overlook that mod. Sloppy but it worked.
