I was pretty certain we wouldn't be finding any huge gills here but there are good numbers in the 8" class. . We tried a couple larger jigs I tied some time ago. The black one I think was a #6 hook ,and the pink one I'm not sure of the hook size . We ran them under a float 4'-6' and a long cast away over the deeper gin clear water. We stayed well away from any bedding areas in case there were any early starters. To say the bite was hot would be an understatement. Most of the time we were using 2 wax worms with one dangling. Many times the float was down in mere seconds . We kept 27 for home and caught easily over 100 .Not a single one swallowed the hook and didn't even need the hook outs . It has been a few years since I have seen a bite so hot. The sky was overcast and 80 degrees with light wind gusts. After around 1 1/2 hr. it looked as though a storm was looming so we turned tail.My shoulder was a bit tender anyway. She timed me and the Rapala 110V 6" knife hummed along for 27 gills filleted in 17 min. I hope some of you get a chance at this good a bite on public waters .

NICE , NOTHING LIKE EM
Good catch! I have got to get another electric knife.
I did two dozen by hand this weekend, that is getting old!
(BTW: Caught ours the same way)
Or else I gotta start fishing with people that will help clean the fish...
