Default In search of the winter holding grounds

Earlier this year you guys gave some great info on locations to search and I now know where to get the big ones in the heat of summer and shortly after they come off beds from searching deep points with rock and structure.

Last year this time I had the same Q....winter holding areas?? I'm going to go back to those deep points and just off them in the channel but any tips would be a great help. Seems they may go a little deeper and find areas that matched....am I on the right track?

In my experience, they look for water that's a little warmer than the rest. In my waters, that usually means they are suspended over deep water. On warm days, though, I've found them in very shallow water close to shore.

Please post your findings. I am curious where they hide out in winter too.

Your search parameters are spot on IMHO. A deep point off the channel at Pickwick is where I find them in winter...when they are biting. It also has a flat of shallow water as Disco mentioned for when we have those warm sunny days in winter and they will move up.

Thx for the input guys, I will get out this month and try those spots and get some SI DI if I find them. Good tip on the bladder for those deep fish.

jc looks as though due to work my ice trip to MI this year took a back seat. Really enjoy those trips to LBD and some of the smaller lakes in that state. Due to the temps down here for the next while my gill trip may be sidelined as well for a short time.
