Split shot about 6 inches above hook, laying on bottom with red wiggler, where i fish.
Just curious what y'alls favorite setup is for catching Shellcrackers? Most of the ponds I fish are fairly shallow so I like to use a slip float rig set to where the bait just bumps the bottom, it works pretty well for Shellcrackers and I pick up a few catfish as well. As for bait I like to use good ol' Red Wriglers. I'm always up for learning new techniques so any that y'all are willing to share would be greatly appreciated .

Ultra -lite with 6 lb. stren and a Carolina rig with worms/crickets . The one most used is a 1/32 spinner with a one inch "slider" paddle tail grub .Folks tell me they want hit artificial bait .

Dang eagle, put on the hush puppies and white beans and I'll bring the sweet tea! mmmm mmmm!!
Slow swimming a 1/64th or 1/32nd ounce beetle or 1" curly tail along the bottom. I don't target shellcrackers, but tend to catch quite a few when crawling jigs.

One of these under slip cork set to depth that keeps the bait a couple inches off the bottom. I like to dip these in and around lily pads too. Tip with a cricket, wax worm, or piece of red wiggler too. Have put an old silver or gold spinner off a beetle spin on these too when the fish are scattered and willing to chase a bait.
