I have used it but only when I have run out of red worms and crickets. I did catch a few fish with it but not like I was catching when I ran out of my real bait.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

That's pretty much my experience with it. It's convenient to have a jar on hand, but the "better than live bait" hype is just that.

Ditto what everybody else said. It's better than the average lure, but far, far less effective than live bait. It's a shame that the laws against false advertising are no longer enforced because that claim they make is pretty blatant, and misleading (false).

Gulp alive minnows and fish fry are my number one bait for bluegills and crappie. From ice out in the Spring to freeze up in the late fall, Gulp alive put a lot of panfish in my kayak. I use nothing but artificial baits for all fishing and I usually have no problem matching the live bait anglers fish for fish.

I have actually found the statement about them catching as many or more fish than live bait to be true. Of course this might just be me, but I would stand by that statement. Not that I am "Joe" fisherman or anything, but I would have no problem setting in the same school of fish as any angler using live bait and feel quite confident that I will catch as many fish as them. Once again, this is just my experience. This is just another thing that makes crappie.com such an awesome site. The variety of ideas and opinions, tips, experience, is endless.

When the fish are very active it works, but I found when fishing is tough you can't do better than live bait. Again JMO

The 1" minnows will catch anything under a float of jigged on a jighead. The crickets work great too. I wouldn't say they will always outfish live bait, but it has been proved on a few different trips. I've used the minnows on a jighead and caught the fool outta fish when i couldn't even get bit with a live minnow. This is true. Caught bass, crappie and gills on the artificials when they wouldn't touch the live ones.
