I use a lightweight nylon fanny pack mostly because its too hot here for my shorty vest (and I hate toting a tackle box everywhere) but a lanyard is another portable option to hold your nippers, hemostat (foreceps), flybox, tippet, hook hone, zinger or retractor, and other gear. A word of caution about using the plastic lace, it might be fine in some hot weather conditions but it might also melt in really hot weather so I would substitute it for a small nylon cord as I've heard some folks use for a lanyard.
