    I usually thread them on, using a worm or piece of worm big enough to cover the hook. I generally use a #4 hook for panfish (other than Crappie). Those fish too small to inhale the entire worm/hook ... I'm not interested in catching, anyway !! Rofl

    my dad taught me to hook them in the middle just enough to cover the bottom bend in the hook (don't worry about the shank) and always keep the point of the hook in the worm.....fish bite faster if the point of the hook is not exposed....this leaves the two ends of the worm to wiggle which will trigger a bite....I have caught all species of fish doing this with worms....back in Mississippi when I was a youngster we fished with worms called "red wigglers"....this was the "go to" bait when things were slow....good luck...

    thanks i did that a few weeks ago on a bass that would not bite anything i put in his face..till i did that w/the worm
