Most fish will take corn. Smaller bream love it. I fish it a lot for carp and trout, but I haven't really tried it for bream -- probably should. As you say, the price is hard to beat.
Has anyone used canned corn for bream bait? I know it works well for rainbow trout, and has a yellow color. It would be easier and cheaper than crickets.....

Keith Warren of the Fishing and Hunting TX show caught big bluegills from a boat dock on canned corn. On film too. I had to try it myself in my Pop's pond. The bream turned their noses up at it like they did the mealworms, waxworms, and them glow crawlers from Wally World. They love crickets cause they can steal em off the hook fast and I usually accidentally turn loose a half of tube.
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish
I remember fishing a creek with my dad when I was a kid, and we would wear out the gills on canned corn. I have tried it several times over the years at different lakes while bluegill fishing and haven't done any good. But we sure used to fill up the basket in that creek.
I've heard it works pretty good but I've never tried it.

I know the gills here will eat basically anything with a hook in it. No joke.
I have an uncle that swears by it. He told me to dump the corn out in the sun and let it dry a little and that would toughen it up somewhat to stay on the hook better. I have not tried it yet but I plan to this year. Hopefully this weekend. We spread a bunch of pea gravel around our dock to make a bream bed and I am getting anxious to try them out.
