Thread: Question about fishing 1/100 jigs?

I have never heard of any that small. Where do you get them?

I use both methods.

For bigger jigs (1/64), I will cast them without a float. It helps to double up on your jigs when they're that light (tie one jig to the hook of the other jig, so you're casting two jigs at once.) That way, you can try out two different colors at the same time.

Bass Pro sells jigs down to about 1/128 oz. They're in the fly fishing section.

Also, a "jig" that light is just a fly by another name. Most of the little "bead head" nymphs are great for gills and can be cast with a float or a fly rod.

Yep! Tiny little jigs!
The advantage of the jigs over beadheads is that the jig rides like a "jig" under a bobber or "strike indicator"!
I tie and fish these all the time and can out catch any other, under some conditions! I cast them either with the ultralight and clear float or fly rod! Will take the fly rod any day..... floating line stays out of the trash while letting the leader (line) drop to what ever depth I set the float! This can be great in weedy waters, fishing pockets and such!
Down size your fav jigs and you're on your way!
Great for "dippin' jigs" in sallow waters, and quite effective in cold water, when the food is "small critter bugs" around the rocks and wood snags! And when not focused on Crappie, these little jigs will tear up them Bluegills!

I started using 1/100 and 1/80 oz. this year for gills.I HAVE to use a float.I use shad look alikes two at a time about a foot apart.One at the bottom and one about 6 to 7 inches above it on a loop.

I use a small foam slip bobber and I also place a small splitshot about 18 inches above the jig. This gives me some weight to cast with and does not effect the action of the light jig. I use a ultra light spinning rod and reel.

i use both methods.i do throw the tiny jigs with nothing else sometimes,and will put a clip on float above it.i also like to put appropriate size pieces of trout worm on a 1/80 jig head.i nailed some gills good last week on this.most were dinks tho.was bright orange colored trout worm i got at dickssportinggoods here
