I am going to take my son bream fishing and would like some advice. When do they bed? Is it on the Full Moon or on the New Moon. Is it better the day before or after the Moon. Last but not lest, When trying to find a bream bed on a lake that you have not fished what is the best way to locate the bedding area. Thanks for your help.

PS I am fishing in MS

Wolf ... general consensus is - water temps need to be above 70deg ... Full Moon period (several days before, to several days after) ... usually thru the months from April - Sept (depending on water temps) ... 2-6ft of water depth ... on sandy bottom, pea gravel bottom, or around stumps/wood cover or sparse vegetation.

If you can't visually see a Bluegill bedding site ... you may be able to smell one. Many people say the odor is something like very ripe watermelon. Others state that you should look for lots of bubbles rising in a specific area.

In our lake Caddo Lake it is stained to muddy most of the time. I work out in front of my boat and can tell by the smell more that any thing when I am hitting a bed. Here its all muddy bottom so I hit the cypress Islands and always do very well this time of year. FWIW a Small jig that imitates a crawfish with a small bit of shrimp or a maggot i found works good on bedded bream.

Full moon is better, but have caught them on the new moon.
As a rule of thumb I fish 5 days before and 2-3 days after.
Take you kids fishing today!!! They will be grown (and married and have children of their on) tomorrow. Then you can take your GRANDKIDS!
