I don't think I've ever caught a gill on a slider. I do much better with marabou jigs or flies. Maybe I should give them another try.
We have a pond that is loaded with 6" to 10" bluegill. We were catching a few with worms and crickets. A couple of weeks ago I tied on a 1/32 or 1/48 oz head (not sure) with a black/char Slider and started SMOKIN' them! It was cloudy and raining on and off all day. The were very aggressive but not on beds. I caught them in 3' to 14' of water at all depths. They would hit on the fall or on the slow roll retrieve. The bigger ones would hit on the fall.
This past weekend a cold front came through MS and the bite was light and relatively slow. We change the retrieve to a bump, bump fall and they went nuts again. They can't seem to resist the little paddle tail. It quivers on the fall. I have tried twister tails and roadrunners with little success.
The funny thing is I have had the Sliders for a couple of years and never really used them. That will change

Newby question, what does a slider look like?

I use sliders all the time for big gills . I always cut the first 3 rings off the front to make them shorter and use 1/32 jigs . In stained water I like the chartreuse pepper with orange tail . On a clear lake last week , Muscadine Wine was the best producer . gillchaser

here is a link to the Sliders....they are great baits for gills and crappie....this one is 1" but you can do like was said previously and cut them in half or so to trim them down if you already have some of the longer ones.......slower the fall the better
