    Default Panfish assassin?

Has anyone here used the panfish assassin for bluegill/redear? I bought some today and they look decent. I'm strictly a live bait fisherman but am currently expanding my skill set. I've bought some jig heads, small plastics, cabin creek hairbaits and now these panfish assassins.

Do you slow roll them on the bottom or vertically jig them? I'm sure there are different ways to present them in different situations. I'm mainly fishing for redear which is bottom fishing almost 100% of the time. Do these small plastics, jigs etc, work for crackers and what method has produced for you guys?

i use those sometimes as well.i mostly get crappies and bass on them tho.bluegills sometimes.gills on spawning beds should kill them.i like to put a hook in them and just fish them with a stop and go,and sometimes twitch em,and with out weight.they sink slowly without any weight.you can throw these pretty far sometimes even without a weight because they are kind of bulky.i've even used them for baby bluefish that come inshore close to docks in the summer on a snapper popper rig.im going to recomend fin-s shad by lunkercity Fin-S Shad Page especialy for gills tho in the smallest size 1 3/4".these are smaller around than the panfish assassin and are easier for a gill to fit it in his mouth.the first color i ever got is gold pepper shiner and it works very well in many places i've tryed.since then i've gotten more various colors.also small tube baits you can find in walmart are good idea as well.they can fit into a bluegills mouth easily too.i sometimes fish those with only a hook and no weight,as well as the small fin-s shad.works great for when big gills are biting things off the surface or just under.good luck

I caught several nice gills today with a panfish assassin..tipped with a crappie nibble, and fished about 3 ft under a bobber. I did catch more...and miss fewer with a 1/64 oz hair jig tipped with a nibble, also. Good luck !

Panfish assassin jigs are awesome. They are good for both casting and slow presentations like verticle jigging. I fish where there are abundant threadfin shad so I use the 2" albino shad crappie dapper with outstanding results. I just wish they were offered in a 1 1/2 inch version. I catch some really nice redears casting the banks with a slow retrieve. I too believe in adding a flavored crappie bite or another brand of flavored niblet to the hook.

These were the first straight tailed shads that I ever used. Worked very well for me drifting or slow rolling along the bottom; sometimes even at mid-depths. Lately however, I've had much better results with BGBS straight tails. Maybe it's the slightly larger profile? In any case, the gills and most other panfish species really like them.

I used to fish panfish assassins all the time for crappie. My preference for bluegills and shellcrackers were sliders, (I pulled the paddle tail off a lot of the sliders because the bluegill tends to hit the back in avoiding the hook). I also liked small tubes on a 1/64 oz. jighead. I twisted the tentacles off right behind the hook (again to avoid short strikes). My favorite is trout magnets. Smaller is better.
Good to tip with a piece of worm or add scent.

I long line the shad color a lot. When they are not hitting them I put the tail in some chartreuse Spike It dye. That seems to help a lot.
