    Default Underspin reels

I need to buy a couple of new underspin reels to install on a pair of new BnM rods (10.5-12.0 feet) for bluegill fishing using 4-6# test.

I would appreciate opinions on the least problematic (best quality) reels on the market today. Price isn't an issue ... my wife is paying.

I'm just getting back SOME of what she has already charged for knowing me. At this point, it isn't going to get any worse ... so I might as well have some new gear and go fishing.

Got any ideas on the best underspin, trigger spin or whatever they are called depending on the manufacturer?? I am looking for light and small - it just needs to hold the spare line for bluegill "dabbling".

Given those criteria, any of them are going to work. The quality of the experience will be more dependent upon the line you put on them than the reel. Having said that, I have a Shakespeare Under-spin that I have had for 4 years. It performs adequately.

    Default Quantum

Ive had alot of the quantum micro underspin reels. When im fishing hard at small areas and pockets i get more casts in because of time not wasted tripping the bail and making sure the line doesnt get tangeled. I always used them with #4 test and 12' rod most of the time and the rod made up for the quality of drag and friction. Basically i played them on the rod but the drag did work ok. Im sure of you didnt know how to play a fish you could probably burn the line. I used to catch alot of bass on them and landed a 10# cat also.
They can be a little squeaky at times and not exactly silky smooth. I love the reels but it would be nice to have one with a better drag larger diameter spool/opening and maybe 3-4 bearings.

why do you guys prefer underspins over just a spinning reel. I have always used small micro spinning reels for my gills and even bass on the beds. just wondering if i was missing something.

I suspect that many folks are like me, I mount them on fly-rods. This combo makes an outstanding panfish and/or trout set up. Of course you could just tape an ultra-light reel to the handle. I have done that in the past also. I caught so many fish with it that I wore the reel out and retired it to the garage wall along with the "Lucky Fishing Hat" my grand-daughter got for me and my "Born to Fish, Forced to Work" shirt my son got for me.

I bought these for my boys for Christmas and I will be using them when they aren't along! They cut down on tangles which in turn let's us all fish more.

    Pflueger Cetina Spincast Reels

The ratings don't speak that highly of the reels but I like them a lot. They have a good "heavy" feel to them. The ratings for the cheaper Pfleuger underspin reel are higher which leaves a little doubt for me on the overall accuaracy of the ratings.

I looked at the Pflueger Cetina reels and then read the reviews of them on the BPS web site. I wasn't impressed once I saw the reviews. I ended up buying an Abu Garcia underspin because I wanted EXTREMELY slow line retrieve ratio for my gill/shellcracker outfit.

I have two underspin reels used them on spinning rods and they did not cast well. I just put them on a couple of old fly rods and they work great THANKS jimesaac for the idea.
