I profess to be no expert on boats but to me he was going waaaaaaaayyyyy to fast and the boat was fish tailing because,IMHO, it was overpowered. To me there is no need for such speed. If it takes me 5 minutes longer to get to a spot so what. Just my 2 cents worth.

Well he was going fast but he had that boat trimmed up way to high. when encountering waves like that you he should have slowed down and trimmed down. Those boats are made to go fast, but he didn't know how to drive it that fast. The "fish tailing" you saw is called walking and because he didn't know how to adjust the motor out properly that appeared to be worse. Bottom line is he was over driving his experience.

You know he was going all out and plus he was way to close to the other boat when he pulled in behind them to show off for the camera. The waves were to big for that kind of speed. He is a very lucky man and I bet he has learned his lesson after that.

I know I have had my boat up to 80 mph before, but it was only once and on a mirror like lake. Now about the fastest I go is about 70 mph and that is only on calm days and I have a very long run to make. Plus I watch for any kind of wave or wake way ahead of me to slow down if I am running that fast. I usually run about 55 mph on average. When I bought the boat I have now I was going to start fishing more on a bass tournament trail, but it never happened and all I do now is crappie fish pretty much. I know i do feel safer with a bigger boat and motor on those rough days when the wind comes up and there are about 3-4' waves out on the lake. Life vest and kill switch is a must.

The only time to run wide open is if you have an emergency or it's time to beat a storm to the shore. I cant speak for everyone but it's a good idea to require these new boating courses for certification. Wev'e had some tragic accidents here the last 5 years mostly after dark....and drinking was involved. The Bassmasters moto is....the faster you can go the more you can fish, maybe against the clock but dont bet your life on it!

I would have never tried to fly over that wake like that. My boat will do about 45 and I have only had it at that speed once and normally go about 35 that's plenty fast for me. Glad they posted that though, it may make people think twice before they try something like that themselves!

    I run wide-open all the time! And I don't even own a kill-switch! I'm not scared!!!
