Six of us at CB yesterday. Lots of dinks, but not a single keeper. One guy said that four Asians had kept about fifty dinks, earlier. Did get a 4# channel cat. Then, the alternator went out on the way home.
Anyone fish from a boat lately? Going to try it tomorrow. I haven’t been on Blackwell in over 10 years.
Trider, did you make it to LCB and if so did you do any good? buddy and I went out friday in a boat and it was pretty slow. We found fish in 32' mixed in with large schools of shad but had to really work for the ones we got.
Got 40 crappie yesterday afternoon, but only 9 over 10", up to just over 12". Most guys getting at least a few fish. Orange hand-ties worked best, both marabou and hair. A lot of nice guys fishing. Was happy the big storm passed just west of us. One guy's wife kept calling him, worried that the storm was going to get him.

Yes I made it down. Only caught a few before my young fishing partners froze out and we called it lunch time. Lol

More of the same. Got 47 crappie, only one over 8.5", and it was only 9.0". Some of the guys got some good keepers. Brown/orange and black/chartreuse hair jigs worked best, with chartreuse/white also doing well.
Being young and foolish, I went back to CB and this time took the grandson along. He got one 6"er. I got 8 dinks and a 12"er. Very few keepers caught by the other people there.

I heard that ice spoons were catching some nice fish, so I ventured forth into the hurricane winds, only to find that they didn't care at all about ice spoons. Several of us tried various colors, but no go. Two ladies and the lad accompanying them got maybe a dozen in the 10-11 inch range and a bunch of dinks, using minnows. A number of people got zero, and the other guys got a few small ones. I got seventeen, ranging from 6.5-9.75 inches, eleven of them right after the last guys left, just before sundown. The only color that worked was white/chartreuse tipped with a red sparkle crappie nibble. When I got home with nada, there was a good excuse: cold fronts are killers.
Tried it again last night. 9 dinks, 3 between 10.5"-11", and a very heavy 14.25 "er. The guys said that the night before, the big fish hit great right before the storm arrived. Always a day late and a dollar short.
