This is the biggest black crappie I've ever caught out of Kaw. Probably haven't caught more than 10 in all the years I've fished it. Starting to see more show up.
I was up against that south bank but it was so gusty, wind swirls would buffet you from the left and back from the right. Impossible to stay on the side of the marker you wanted. You had drop the marker on your target and just circle around it, scared a of of fish. In retrospect should have just stayed back and corked the piles and stumps from a distance.

For anyone fishing Kaw that comes in from the east and needs minnows, Jr's station in Shidler will have minnows by the middle of the week. They do sell them by the pound for those that spider rig or use a lot of poles. They are also adding new crappie baits everyday you may want to look at.

Does the store in kaw city still have minnows?
Tim, thanks for the minnow info.
Melissa now has minnows at JR's Texaco in Shidler Ok. She is selling them by weight not by the dozen. 1/4 lb is around 3 dozen minnows so its a good deal. I will list the prices and store number below so you can call ahead and check availability. If you know a day in advance, she will make sure to have them on hand. In the next couple of weeks she will be adding more crappie baits such as Redneck Rubber Co beaver bottom baits, Bobby Garland, Strike King and Mr Crappie etc. Heading to the water.
1/4 lb - 4.00
1/2 ib - 8.00
3/4 lb - 12.00
1 lb - 15.50
JR's Texaco - 918 - 793 - 4961
My family normally gets together around the 4th of July at the Washunga Campgrounds. I haven't fished Kaw Lake. Any suggestions around that area and during that time of the year?
What do you normally fish for
