Default Lake Hudson i.e Burn Camp

I'm doing the burn camp this year and was curious if anyone could tell me what to expect. I've got a 24 ft pontoon, so I'm assuming they are going to want me to be doing just boat rides. Should I expect to have folks fishing from my boat? My kids love to check the jugs so I was planning to bring them along, and let the campers try to pull up some catfish. The only experience I have with the lake is driving over the Hwy 20 bridge. Is there anywhere close to the RV park that would be good for running jugs. Also planning to fish a little on my own after camp is over, so any suggestions on where to dip a jig would be nice as well. Looking forward to the camp. Any advice or insight to how things are ran is greatly appreciated.

L82.... Glad to hear you are signed up for the fishing event at Hudson. If you signed up to be a boater, Chances are Jennifer will stick a couple campers with you and one if not two counselors. Jugs are fine and a great idea. A few other boats also run jugs for the campers and they pull in some good fish at times. I cant tell you where to go really for sitting up jugs, I am sure someone else will have a good idea on that. As far as dipping a jig, there are several spots you can do that. On the North East side of 82 bridge there is some piles that hold fish as well as lots of timber a ways north of Hwy 20 bridge. Some out of water some submerged so be careful. There are numerous private docks along the lake and also a marina or two (not sure rules on fishing around it). There is a lot of sandbass in that lake that can provide a ton of action for the campers if you can find them. Some of these kids have a great time just catching perch with worms and a bobber. Just be ready to head out and wet a hook and have a great time. The campers are always smiling and laughing and some of them will really open up with you and joke around and kid like you had known them for years. A rod and reel will be provided for the camper along with life jackets. If you are up for boat rides after the event, stick around and we will get you with Jennifer and she can arrange for that. If you have a tube and would like to pull campers after the event we will make arrangements for that so bring your tube. We would like for you to be there around 530-545 am to check in and then campers will begin arriving at 630-7am. Breakfast will be ready around 630. We will have a small meeting with the boaters going over rules and expectations and usually one of the Salina FD members will talk about lake hazards and so on. You will then be assigned your counselor and campers and then you are free to head out. Fishing hours are from 730-11. around 1030-11 weigh in stations will be set up and you can return to weigh your catch. All boaters must be back in at 11. Lunch will be starting around 12. I cant think of a single thing I don't like about this fishing event. Get to meet some amazing people, be surrounded by nothing but excited kids and get to fish and eat good food! You are going to have a great time. Bring you some drinks, snacks, bug spray and sun block. If you have any questions closer to the event please give me a call 918-399-9819 and I will help you anyway I can. Or you can also get call Jennifer Arrowsmith at 918-864-1318. I will be around Friday afternoon and evening doing a little scouting of my own on the lake if you would like to meet up and say hi. Hope this helps. Look forward to meeting you and Thanks so much for being a part of this event. Its the favorite day for the campers and that is 100% because of guys like you who come out and make it happen. Any questions at all give me a call or shoot me a text and i will be glad to help you.

We would certainly like having you to take a few kids fishing. Jug lines are certainly fun for the kids. Anything you can do together the kids out on the water will be great. Thanks L82 for sacrificing your time to put a smile on a child's face. God Bless You.......Ranger

Diabolical it might and is fine to put your jugs out late Friday have fish on early for the kids to run down. A few will show up very early to put theirs out before the kids show up.....Good Luck and it's a day you will never forget.......Ranger

Great feedback. I was going to show up grossly unprepared, but now I'll bring my tube, jugs, trolling rig, and whatever else I can think of. I'll be able to attend the whole day. I don't think I can make it up Friday to scout, but I studied the navionics app, and don't think it will be too hard to find a place to place the jugs. Is the fishing tournament for crappie only? This sounds like a blast and even though I haven't participated, I'm pretty sure you can count me in for years to come.

L82 the fun tourney for the kids is for any species that swims. Lots of catfish, drum, perch, few bass, crappie, and even seen some shad weighed in over the years. It's all about making the kids smile and showing them a great time. Some it will be their first time ever fishing.......Ranger

This will be my third consecutive year to participate at this great event. I look forward to it every year. I'm sure you'll feel the same!
