The mini SD cards in smart phones will not fit in any Lawrence unit for an update. They are two different sizes. Only a Standard size SD card will work in a Lowrance unit. Actually the Elite 7 (series ) requires a mini SD card. The slots will not accept a regular SD card. A mini card also works with the full size slots in other Lowrance units with the adapter. However, I've not tried updating by phone. I'm not sure how to do a zipped file with the phone.

The zipped file must be unzipped to get to the software update. By the time you buy a mini SD Adaptor you may have already exceeded the cost of a standard SD card.

My phone has the micro in it as well but seems like it might be a pain to try to download then save to the card over the phone but who knows maybe it might be worth a shot

Yeah, like I said before I'm not sure how to do that. Besides, the mini that came with your phone won't have an adapter normally. Any mini I've bought for the Elite series came with the adapter. I looked at the Lowrance site and I'm not sure there should be any rush to update your Elite. It is a zipped file. I would just take it the next time you are going to BPS (or have someone with a computer do it for you.) The Elite only has one slot so you would need to remove your mapping card and replace it with the mini card with the update and when finished, put your mapping card back in.
I really like the new menu system update for the Touch series. A lot easier to navigate around,

Listen to IkenI, if you purchase a mini SD Card, it usually comes WITH an SD adapter that allows you to fit the mini into, then stick the SD in any SD slot. The "unzipping" may be the only issue. If the update can be D/L'd onto the mini card via smart phone, depending how smart the phone is, it may be able to unzip the D/L and then just transfer from phone to mini card. IF that can be done, then mini card into Elite 7, turn on, the Elite takes it from there.
Frank, this means that a mini SD card with an adapter that normally comes with it when a mini is purchased WILL FIT INTO ANY LOWRANCE UNIT that uses an Sd slot.
