I can't really remember but it seems like they have to leave it on the tester for around 30 minutes unless there is a problem, then it's longer. I had a 77' Cadillac that ate WalMart batteries like candy. Finally put an Interstate battery in it, and it held up. I would rather pay $30 or $40 bucks more and not have to burn a half day messing with WalMart. Maybe I just purchased a few rare bad batteries? Don't really know but I've had really good luck with Interstate. Who knows, they both might be made by the same chinaman. The only thing that I'm 100% sure of is that I'd rather take a sharp stick in the eye than take a battery back to WalMart.
