Default Parks Closed on the Nav Channel! What's Up?

Was told that the parks along the Navigation Channel such as Afton and Bluff Landing are closed. Sure enough, I drove out today and there are "Park Closed" signs on 51 Hiway signs directing you to the parks. There's a barrier across the road as you go into Afton.

Anyone know what's up with this? All I can think of is all the rain they had up North and the COE worried about debris coming down or this silly Sequester crap the Gov has going on.

OkieDon it has to do w the sequester from the government. From what I know they are shutting the parks down for a month. If the funding is available to open them they will reopen. If the funding is not available the parks are gonna be closed indefinitely. It would help for everyone to contact the govt officials and express their concerns. Here are their numbers:
    Tom Coburn 202-224-5754 or 405-231-4941
    Jim Inhofe 202-224-4721 or 405-608-4381
    James Birdenstine 202-225-2211 or 918-935-3222
    Kim David 405-521-5590
    Wade Rousselot 405-557-7388

I have heard it is not only the nav channel but possibly some of the lake parks on Ft. Gibson and Eufaula but can't verify that.

Thanks everyone. That's what I was afraid of. You know it can't cost much money to keep parks like Afton and Bluff Landing open. In fact, I'll bet that they come close to paying for their self if not make a little. But hey, I'm just a taxpayer, what do I know. I'm just happy to know there's still money in the budget for Michelle to take multi-million dollar vacations where we pay for all her friends to tag along and for BO to enjoy those Golfing trips and tickets to the Final Four. I sleep much better at night now. [sarcasm off]

I was really looking forward to fishing the nav. Channel with my bro. In law from the east coast when he comes to visit us in may. Though they otherwise seem like good folks, they are big BO supporters. They have just purchased a R.V. and had made plans to park at Bluff Landing during their visit with us. Irony is always a little hard to define but I think this might be a pretty good example. (-:

what about the three forks ramp? or perhaps the ramp by the power plant by Muskogee? just wondering. I seem to remember one by Greenleaf too if I am not mistaken.

No camping at either the ramps you mentioned fish.on so they will remain open I suspect. Myself I was alarmed that there isn't going to be a ramp open between Catoosa and Wagoner open, one of my favorite places to fish the Nav. Channel. My thoughts are everyone is doing their part in helping with the shortfall such as my children which have Government jobs and doing the stay home with no pay thing as they have been told, now what about our Washington Rip Raff will they drop a few dollars to do their part..heck no..they just keep spending..we need a good spring house cleaning as I see it......just sayin.....Ranger
