HELP!!!!!!! DI on trolling motor or SI on trolling Motor???

Okay, I have a question for all you experienced fishermen! I have a HB 597 With Down Imaging and also a HB 998 With Side Imaging. I have not had a chance to put either on my boat and I think next week and I am going to force myself to do it, even if I have to take a day off. Question is, where will I get the most benifit from the each unit? Will it make more sense to put the 998 on my trolling motor (which I have a Terrova with I-Pilot if that affects the decision at all) so I can have SI while sitting up front, or do I want the SI at the wheel and then once I navigate to the cover, I switch to the trolling mtr and use the DI? Do I need to link the I-Pilot to either unit?

New to all this extreme technology (I-Pilot, SI, DI, Ect)

I would get on the Humminbird forum and ask that question. I have a 998c SI and I do not think it would work well when you turn the trolling motor. The link below should get you to the forum.

Josh the SI I would place on the console if it was me. You will search more using the big motor since you can scan such a wide area on both sides of the boat. Just my humble opinion. I do not know if you can ethernet both of those unit together as far as gps or not, cause I don't know nothing about a Humminbird. But if you can that would be the thing to do so if you mark a pc of structure on 1 unit it will automatically be placed on the other as a waypoint. As far as the other questions you need more of an expert than I am.....Ranger

If it was me I'd install the SI on the console & DI on the trolling motor. And I wouldn't need to be forced to do it either.

You couldn't slow me down on the install.

I thought I read somewhere on here that you could not use SI on the TM as the movement distorts the image. The DI will work as I understand it. I am only repeating what I read, I don't have either one. I have an I-Pilot Terrova but the DF is a plain old HB. Spent all my money on the TM, worth every penny.

Thanks guys. I will go with the DI on the trolling motor. I can't wait to get out and see the under water world. Maybe it will help me in the upcoming tournaments!!!! I will check and see if thenunits can be linked together. Would be nice but not sure if the 597 is capable ofnthat. A call to hummingbird Monday should answer that. Mark, when the weather cools some more expect a call. I am ready to see how you guys domit and learn some tricks to catching these little suckers!!!!!

I read that too. The SI you want level and still or at least that is what I'm led to believe after reading about it.
