    Default Eufaula brush drop?

This is just a "fishing" post to see who might be interested in participating if a Eufaula brush drop day was planned (similar to the recent one at Oologah).

I spoke with ODWC fisheries personnel and if things were planned right, they could likely be available with habitat barge(s) to assist with placing piles.

Again, this is just to start a discussion and gauge interest. What are your thoughts?

I'd be interested in helping, depending on the day it was held. Where were you thinking about having it?

I'd suggest a similar setup as to what we did on Oologah. Figure out where you would like to put the brush in Winger, check the area out to find a spot to stage from. It would also depend on what style structure you drop. For instance, the Corp at Oologah uses pallets with 4 sides, loads chainsaws, rope and people on their pontoons with a Captain. The Captain pulls up to a bank where everyone gets off and cuts/loads brush and limbs into the pallets, then rocks off the shoreline to sink them. Then move out to deploy.

The ones we did were three pallets shot into a triangle. We used my yard as a building area using a framing gun to shoot 3' ringshank galvanized nails to hold the brush in place on the pallets, then transported them on two trailers down to the lake and back them into the water far enough so the boats could just pull along side of the back of each trailer. Then we had a couple of guys helping load the pallets onto the boats while tying off the blocks as well. Bill and I had also built wooden, hinged frames for the pallets to sit on during transport to the drop points. When it was time to drop them overboard, one man just raised the frame up to send it on it's way. I think everyone who was there would agree it was a fairly smooth operation.

However it's done, just be sure to do your planning ahead of time. It make for a fun day and you can really improve some areas for fishing.

The floor is open to all thoughts and suggestions.

I suggest looking at some areas that don't have many piles. Some suggestions (in my order) are I-40 vicinity to 150 bridge, Belle Starr/Carr Creek area and the cut.

Some considerations: Possible dates? Structure – pallets or just trees? Our fisheries guys just do trees – quick, easy and no one cares if you cut a cedar (but no, Ranger, they don’t have to be cedars). Materials (rope, wire, etc.)? Boats?

I would go with whatever areas, some of you more experienced fisherman suggest. Haven't fished Eufaula in 25 years but wanting to start fishing it! Need to bear in mind deer seasons aren't to far in the future, which will probably put a dent in attendance.

My attendance to many things will be severely limited over the next 3 months, starting with work and then with my son being a deer killin' machine. That said, I could squeeze in a day somewhere, though it might not be a Saturday.

This will be like anything else in that getting a date that everyone can make is near impossible. I just wanted to get the conversation started. But, we gotta start somewhere. Might even end up being a winter event.
