For me it's dipping the timber. I use two jigs on a 10-12' rod and fish about 8-10' deep. It's like a run and gun method. I just drop the jig near the base of the tree, let it set for about 30 seconds and I don't get a bite then I move on to the next tree. The most you may catch at any given tree is usaully 3-4. Only thos ethat are wanting to feed at the time will hit any others will not bite. I may hit any where's from 50-100 trees. This is very effective during the summer and fall months, May-early Oct. Yum Beavrtails on 1/8-1/4 oz jig head. Fish timber that is anywhere's from 10-20 fow. Also try and hit the trees near the channel.

I am no expert, but this will always put a limit in the boat for me.

Dipping is probably the best if youre IN the timber. Casting and retrieving can be effective along the edges. Longlining and spider rigging works well too if you can stay out of the timber. It has been several years back but I used to really enjoy my 10' dipping pole with me sitting on the front of the boat running the trolling motor and even sculling the boat some from tree to tree dipping with minnows under a slip float.

right down beside the trunk and work all the way around. I like to let it go to the bottom and slowly work it up till I find the depth they're hanging at. Sometimes hold it still, sometimes jig it a little. I let the fish tell me what they want.

Pay attention to how the tree stands in the water, wherever it attaches to the bottom thats where the fish are, you have to fish the right wood in the right depth. Depth is important, there are dippers and flippers. Guys that drop it down vertical and guys that flip it horizontal. The guys that use two jigs dip, the guy that uses one jig flips! But either way obey crappie rule number 1. You never have to beg them to bite! EB
