Default Just bought a place in Sandy Bass Bay #4 (Belle Starr area)

New to these forums but been reading the fishing report last few weeks, was catching them pretty good inside my dock up until we got all that rain, now just catching mostly dinks, guessing its time I need to start venturing out on the boat. Any good hot spots in my area I should try hitting this weekend with them appearing to move to the banks now? I know there is a creek up Northeast of Belle Starr that crosses under Texanna road, anyone fish that area and have any luck during spawning season? Reading all the posts lately about the fishing down South almost makes me wish I'd bought the place I also liked that was around Longtown area. Any pointers would be appreciated, also have a question I have seen the Crappie Pro Distribution sign there on Texanna road, is there an actual store located there as well?

You're in a good area for crappie, but they won't come to you and it will be a few years before you get it figured out for your best fishing areas. You can buy Crappie Pro products in Eufaula at the old Boy Howdy sports store, can't remember the name right off the tip of my head, something like Canadian River Sports.......? Or you can buy them at the Distribution Store right there off Texanna Road. Larry is almost always there, but you'll pay retail and Larry will ask you where you buy his products, and then he reimburses that particular store the difference. Welcome to the forum and good luck fishing. I'm about 12 miles south of you as the crow flies in an area called Arrowhead Estates and the fishing here is no better than your area.

I grew up on that part of the lake and still don't live too far from you. I actually lived in #4 for about 10 years when I first moved back here after college. Caught a lot of fish on those docks, but only at certain time of the year as the water is relatively shallow on most of them. The creek you are referring to is Carr Creek. Used to catch a lot of fish out of it, but haven't fished it much in recent years. It has silted in and changed a lot, but I think there are a couple of places a guy could catch some fish. The first is the bluff area. It is not too far up the creek as you start p it from the mouth. By the way, be careful at the mouth, very shallow, and at normal pool or below you might not get a boat across it. Anyway, head up the creek and it will go into an "s" curve with the bluffs on either side. That's the spot. Another place to try is above Texanna Road in the creek bends. The creek is going north under Tex Rd and then bends east, then bends north again. That is a good stretch to try.

In general, the south end produces more crappie, but I fish the north end quite a bit and do good most of the time. Like Stink said, just takes a while to figure things out.

That sign you see for Crappie Pro is Larry Russel's place of business. Stop in and say hi to Larry and check out all his baits.
And I used to fiah some in the Belle Starr area and there are a few brushpiles in that creek with the docks NE of Belle Starr you was asking about. I have not caught alot of crappie out of it but I have caught enough to stink the kitchen up some. If you was around when the lake was low and was able to mark the trees west of Sandy Bass complex you will usually find some fish there in the post spawn and during the summer months.....Ranger
