I think the best tasting is the one you can catch at the time. Shoot, I even think that whichever one you catch, taste better than either one if they are given to you.

Yes I have to agree with the "fillet like a zipper" Their tubular bodies make for easy fillet. I've cooked both at the same time at fish fry's and the walleye/Sauger fillets were gone much quicker than the crappie. I just wish i could catch a limit of walleye. They're more difficult to catch than crappie.

I like Porterhouse and Ribeye both.

Sometimes prefer one over the other, same thing with Crappie and Walleye.

No question for me, walleye is better. I used to catch one every now and then at Carl Blackwell outside of Stillwater back when I was in college. I caught a few while crappie fishing and the walleye was always better when compared side by side.

    Default Crappie vs. Walleye

I'm pretty sure I've eaten most freshwater species. Here are the top 3 in my opinion:

    1) Walleye
    2) Blue Catfish
    3) Crappie

trolling in lake Hefner years ago with a buddy from Wisconsin we caught a nice Walleye and a nice Flathead he said lets cook and compare .and the flathead won the taste contest. although its hard to beat all three of them I like bass also

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to fish for Walleye's in Ontario, Canada on Lake of the Woods and experience the shore lunch thing. I will say that for my taste Walleye filets are very good eating. As to whether Crappies or Walleyes are better is probably just a matter of personal taste, but I do plan on making another trip to Canada and experience the Walleye shore lunch thing again.

I have had the great fortune of heading North across the border several times. It is hard to beat a shore lunch of Walleye. I haven't done that with crappie but sure the experience would be the same. I think it is all in your own taste buds. I can fry up some Northern Pike that have been cleaned properly and it tastes no different than walleye. Winter crappie I believe tastes different than spring and summer crappie. Who cares which one tastes better when they both are gone as soon as you start frying them. If you haven't been on a Canada fishing trip you better start making plans because it is unbelievable. If you would like to know a great lake to go to where the camp is run properly let me know and I will give you the name. A guy went with us last year that has been all over Canada and Alaska and said without a doubt the Camp host and fishing was the best. He said he will not go anywhere else for Canadian fishing.
