a co-worker had told me that they were catching them off the dam in about 14' of water and some of them were going 2.5-3.5lbs but where off the dam im not sure and he also said that all of them were caught on artifical bait none on minnows
Got to thunderbird today at noon and got set up fishin about 12:30, fished until 4:30 and caught fish pretty constant the whole time.. Fishing with two jigs both 1/16 oz garland cajun cricket and blue/pearl, fishin 30 ft of water and catchin about 20ft had a slip cork rigged at 20 and another rod with just 2 jigs and counldn't decide which was funner, feeling the thump or watching that slip cork dance and go under, fish were holding along side some underwater structure in ow, caught well over 100 and just finished cleaning 58, none of the fish were really special but made for another nice mess for the freezer, biggest fish was about 12". I dont know how to put pics on here can someone help me with this? Thanks

Great job Hotrod. Glad to hear they were biting. I may get to hit Oologah again tomorrow.
Josh please try to get a picture of some of those 2.5-3.5 lbers. I would like to see what one looks like. I've never caught one that big much less several.

lol...no kidding odie......me either....the biggest i ever caught were two 15 3/4 inch back to back at Grand...and guess what....the zebco liar scale still said they were under 2 pounds.....a 3 pound crappie must be what.....18 1/2 inches?
Lakedog, The last time I crappie fished Grand was 3-4 years ago. We had fished for a couple of hours and had caught several other species but not a crappie. We were throwing RR's and on back to back casts I caught a 2lber and a 1 3/4er. We never caught another crappie all day. Grand has been pretty bad for several years, though I have heard 2 good reports lately. Maybe it is coming back.

I was fishing in November in an enclosed fishing dock that my wifes grandmother owns. We had gone up there for a thanksgiving meal and I managed to sneak down and fish for a bit...those were the only two crappie that I caught....I did catch a drum on a jig and had the biggest largemouth that I have ever seen follow it all the way to the surface...now why could i have not caught that instead of a drum....?
Josh, theres a pumphouse on the middle of the dam and directly off the rip rap in front of the pumphouse are 3 buoys, used to be 4 about 40 yds out, the buoys mark the grate that is underwater, inside of the buoys are in about 8 ft of water and the ouside of them is about 30. I was fishin it from a boat but it can be reached with a slipcork. I havent caught anything even close to the 3 pounders you heard about in that spot, but have heard similar stories myself. Speaking of big fish, the biggest crappie I have caught was bass fishin a pond with a crankbait and thought I hooked a good bass and when I finally saw the white on the fish I freaked, it was 18" long 7.5 " tall and its mouth measured 3"X3". and weighed 3lbs on the dot. That was ten years ago and have not caught another since and have many hours on the water I would love to see pics of these fish myself and find out where and how there catchin em.
josh if i were you i wouldnt listen to anything that co-worker tells you if he is saying he is catching multiple fish between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs in thunderbird. The lake record is only 2.9 so i bet there are very few if any bigger than that in there now and they wouldnt be much bigger.
I fished thunderbird today around the pumphouse. I can testify that there are no 3 pound crappie in that spot!!!..I got there about 9 and fished till dark. Caught over a hundred fish and even catching two at a time. I managed only about 4 that were close to 10 inches. Typical day at thunderbird....a boatload of dinks
