CG, let me know when you go to Canton if i'm not working or out of the state I'll try to come down and join you
The water temp at Canton has plummeted to 62 degs and the big walleye and hybrids are all over the dam. Some real nice black crappie have started to show up too.

ZZZZZ - The ODWC has been performing their fall lake survey on multiple locations on the lake. They have found alot of big walleye on the dam. Cats on the islands and around the bluff. I have not been able to fish the lake unfortunately. If I do get time to go up it will be for crappie and I will send you a message to join me. I should have plenty of rosy reds trapped by then.
Heard they were biting at canton, also up at Ft. Supply.
Maybe sat pm.
Will report if I get to go.
Funny you mentioned the fall survey, the biologists said the exact same thing 2 years ago... I'm thinking there's a pattern here
I hit the dam at Canton this morning at 6:15 am. Shortly daylight appeared and I was able to go to work jerkin jaws. The fish are at 12 - 13' until around 8:30 then they seem to go deeper. We hit the jetties but the wind got too high to detect a bite. The bites were up bites and light. We moved to Canadian around 9:00 AM but the fish had moved deeper. We wound up with a dozen crappie 2 channel cats, a few sand bass, and a couple big bluegill. After lunch I hit my 10 acre lake near Hinton and caught 12 bass and 3 black crappie. The black crappie were 14". A good day but windy.
cg sounds like you had a pretty good day, you guys will have to forgive me as deer season is in full swing and the forum is blocked at work so my time on the forum has been pretty short.

ZZZZZZZZZ - The first estrous cycle for the does is just about over. I predict that it will be finished by this weekend. This puts the rifle season opener between the primary and secondary estrous cycles. I anticipate that the harvest will be down, how much, don't know. I watched a doe get bred Sunday night by a respectable 9 pointer. He bred another doe on the last night of muzzleloader season. I had him dead to rights at 35 yards standing broadside down wind and he never knew I was there. He stood for 2 -3 minutes then circled me and started chasing does again. i intentionally let him walk. There is a 12 pointer I am hunting so I let the 9 point walk. He will be there next year and probably be 11 or 12 points. A new 8 pointer showed this morning at the feeder along with 2 does and a 6 pointer that has been camped out with the does. The 8 pointer was hungry and not interested in the girls. They were bred last week. These deer are monitored 7 days a week and I watch the daily change in their habits as the photo period shortens and the moon approaches full. I have been researching deer habits for several years in a controlled environment but NOT high fence. They are truly amazing creatures.
Canton has not reached its full winter potential yet. It needs to get colder. This is not to say that good crappie are not being caught, they are just not the numbers.
Z - PM me and I will see what the schedule allows. I keep my thumb on canton' s activity.
