Default Thoughts on using a "vintage" reel?

So I currently have a Zebco 608 spinning reel from 1988 paired with my medium action, 6'6" Gander Mountain Vortex spinning rod. Basically, I bought the rod on sale this summer because I have finally decided to learn how to use a spinning outfit. My dad won a rod and reel combo as a performance bonus back in 1990 from the Kerr McGee oil company but since he didn't like the spinning reel he took it off the rod (and yes, he ended up pairing a spinning rod with a push button reel) and stored it in the garage. It hasn't been used ever basically so I'm wondering, is it a decent learner's reel?

Yes, nothing wrong with it to get you started. You will at least be able to learn how to cast with it, use it for a while and see if you like using that setup. Then if you do you can upgrade to a better reel if you feel the need.
