About half of the state is open to the public between COE's, KDWP, and the state backed "walk in hunting" program. Once you go west of Salina some counties are 50% walk in, thats for birds and mammals. There are tons of us here in KS that really appreciate hunters, the outfitters have increased the kill ratio by automobiles with their selective harvest and we need them deer herds thinned down. You can find places to hunt on the KDWP/hunting website, it lists the walk-in atlas and public hunting. We've even had counties where they wouldn't prosecute hunters for overharvest of deer. Check it out, come and harvest our grain and grass fed deer, they're tasty for sure.

That's a very nice deer, Odie. They just don't grow that big in our area. Don't have the right nutrients.

Don, no lease just a friend who owns land in Kansas and he lets us hunt. We have killed 3 bucks on walk-in hunting over the last 3 years. Great program they have and not to mention 1 buck per hunter per year. It lets them mature and get big bodies and antlers. Crappiedoc that is so true about outfitters. The KDWP has made it harder for us out of staters to buy doe tags. They upped the cost to $77.50 for a doe tag from $22. Kind of hard to pay that, we used to buy at least 1 maybe 2 doe tags each, every year. Always looking for more places to hunt in Kansas if anyone has any connections!
