Thanks for the report, CG. Will be nice to have a good place to catch big gills and red ears again in central OK. They sure put up a good fight for they're size.
American Horse is still approx 5' low but clear. The bass are healthy and fat. The bluegill and redear are showing good recruitment i.e. various sizes/lengths and some toads were shocked up. The coontail is growing back providing more cover for the various spawns to hide in and grow. I expect to see an improvement in the size and quality of the sunfishes this year. The coontail will not only provide cover but it should be full of scuds for the perch to feed on. WOW!! This is good. Maybe in a few years we will again catch a bunch of pig gill and ears WWWOOOHHHOOOO
No, I do not know a completion date on the dam repairs. I will post the date when I hear something firm.

Wish you could have posted some pictures of those fish. I love eating Perch or Blue Gill. Don't know how I got this old thinking they were one and the same fish! Anyway, fish.on, nice job fishing with the kids. Best thing you can to for them. Sorry they got the best of you; I know that many would get me a week's rest in my recliner...
Is it still closed for fishing??
Poorboy - No it is open.
George, are you still up for doing some fishing?? Last time I talked to you, it was a while ago and you had some hunting trips planned.
BPreacher- I have been invited to hit the Horse on Thursday of this week with some flyfishermen. I have not fished the Horse in a couple of years but that does not matter. I know where to go to collect a mess of fish. I do not know yet whether I will even be in town to go on Thursday.
Yes, I am up to go its whether I have the time to spare.
Should be good right now and fly fishing for gills is fun dang it Im jealous. Cricket fishing is easier though
I went out there yesterday evening after reading this thread. Caught alot of gills but nothing that I would say was keeping size. After dark I caught several channels of various size and one nice 3 pound bass. Any one wanna share tips on how to land the big gills.
I use a drop shot rig for pig gills when they are deep and fish with crickets for bluegill. Red wigglers do better on red ear it seems. I fish the timber and the points. I rig my #6 or #8 long shank cricket hook approx 12" above a big split shot and work it along the bottom. Sometimes I switch to a minnow and start picking up bass and crappie.
