McGee Creek is fine. A friend of mine lives on the lake in an RV and he said the lake is good to go. Thw watershed missed all the rain. FYI

This could be a real possibility I think. Never fished it, but have heard good thing . I have seen it and it reminds me of Broken Bow.

I never went there to fish because of the Mercury levels reported in bass. The white crappie is listed as okay (as long as you don't eat too much of it, or are in the sensitive population.) Black crappie was not listed but I read somewhere that Blacks were more like bass when considering Mercury.

Conditions are obviously not good right now at Pine Creek but I am not cancelling my reservations till the last minute. If the Corps can get the water level down and open a campground and ramp the fishing should be great. If not, no big deal - can still cancel at the last minute and if the lake is still closed there should be no penalty for the cancellation. Just before the rains came Texans were catching fish in two feet of water 2 hrs south of there. I'm going to wait on reserving a place at Kaw because all it will take is a couple of big storms in Kansas to make it 30 feet high and muddy. Still a month away.

As of today, Kaw is 1009.60 elevation. Normal pool is 10.10 or wherever the corps decides they want it. We are very dry up here and need rain where others are flooded. Usually we don't get heavy rains until mid to late April but it's anyone's guess. On a good note, Kaw fishes better at 101200 to 1015.00 so we could come up 6 ft from where we are at and still be good. Not trying to influence anyone's decision just updating our conditions up here.

We did a Hugo camp some years ago. Many were disappointed with the fishing at Hugo and drove to McGee. If I am remembering correctly nobody did any good McGee either. The 2 times I fished it I left unimpressed. Caught some, but no size to them and not that many. It may be worth another shot. I would have done it yesterday had I know how bad Kaw was going to be for me in that wind. Most of the lakes I fish are shot for a while with high muddy water. If it stays in shape and Kaw is windy on my free days I may run down there and check it out.

UPDATE: 03.05.18 LAKE CHANGE ON APRIL GEEZER CAMP

    UPDATE: 03.05.2018
Lake Change for April 5th -8th Oklahoma April Geezer Crappie Camp
Pine Creek Lake elevation Sunday was 476.54 which is 43.54 above normal pool. The level has continued to rise since we started monitoring it on February 28th. The Corps has not released any water from the Lake in order to lower the level. Given that there will probably be a lot of debris cleanup inside the Campgrounds, it is uncertain that the Campgrounds will be open in time for our Camp.

We are moving the Camp to Kaw Lake, Sarge Creek Campgrounds. At our last Spring Crappie Camp at Kaw Lake on April 22nd – 24th, 2016 we stayed at Sarge Creek Campsite. All sites are currently available except #44 which is reserved. The following list is from our last 2016 Camp at Kaw Lake and all are available. You will need to reserve as soon as possible.

Contact Recreation.gov to reserve a campsite.
