Cupcake is not such a bad nickname. Three years ago, my brother Craig and I were cutting and baling some native grass hay along the Big Hole River (Blue Ribbon Trout stream) in Montana. The land owner gave me permission to fish his stretch. A #14 prince nymph killed those big old browns. (Had to get some fishing into the story; now onto Cupcake). Craig and I went to the little restaurant in nearby Melrose after work a number of times in order to get a burger or nice steak. The first time we went there, the waitresses were the first thing we noticed. They were 6'3" and 6'4", and the shorter girl called the other one Cupcake. Cupcake was our waitress, and I asked her if the two of them were on the basketball team at the University of Montana-Western. She replied that both of them were on the basketball AND rodeo teams. When asked if the nickname Cupcake was given to her because she was the opposite of a cupcake, she told us that it was because her mother owned a bakery, and as a little girl, Cupcake helped bake and ice the cupcakes. Both of those girls had cupcake personalities and were a pleasure to be around. Sadly, they weren't there last year, as they had graduated and moved on to teaching jobs.
