glad some of you guys had some luck over the last few weeks. I went out sunday afternoon and didn't get much to speak of lower end of the lake. Never been much good for summer fishing. Funny the mention of trouble locating brush, I have noticed that most of the old good producing piles are just a little mound on the bottom.

Went out Monday (8-21-2017) and was able to locate fish on a brush pile. With four people fishing we ended the day with 91 keepers. We used minnows. I tried jigs, but the bite was just not there. The fish were in 18 feet of water, suspended at 10ft in and around the pile. The bite was nonstop. We fished just one pile. Great day. Most of the keepers were in the 10 to 12 inch range. We did catch about a dozen 14 inch fish. Total catch, including the dinks, was over 300 fish caught. My fishing buddy had a 13 year old boy with him who has been helping him out at the house and he had a ball. He said he had never caught fish like that before. We sent him home with a limit of fish, and he did catch the big fish of the day.
Thanks Crappie Reaper thanked you for this post

Got out Sunday evening, kinda a little bit later than I wanted. But minnows were definitely a key factor in catching. Hit blue creek about 6pm focusing on 20-15ftw with a drop or brush near. Didn't find to much that looked promising so decided to slow troll until something happened. Worked out well had 3 rods hooked up with 2 people. Worked that spot until dark caught 27 kept 8 could have probably had 14 but they were still a bit small. So that said I know most of you fish the northern part of the lake. There is a new bait shop on 88 just east of 169 it was on my way so I stopped in for minnows and a few hooks. I'm not one to talk bad really "the lady was very nice" but 5 2/0 hooks 2.99 wow. Then all they had were very large 3inch or very small "no way to hook with out killing 1inch minnows. Basically no mediums. Beside my better judgment I got 1/4lb each. Now for something I really never have had an issue with dying minnows. So I would guess Time from tank to ramp was 3min at most. So 45min to get over to blue creek minnows still in the bag. In a small cooler already had 5-7dead. So I got the bucket 2gal. Get fresh water and drop the minnows in. 15 minutes later 20ish dead. Saga continued for about an hour longer until half or better were already dead.....
Now Minnows from the gas station by redbud same treatment about can't hardly kill them had them in the bag for 3 hours or so one time with only 3-4 dead. Anyone have any ideas on what could have been the issue? I guess I'm just aggravated about spending $21 on 1/2lb minnows 5 hooks and some larger probably 1/8oz+ split shots. Then having mostly dead minnows or way to small to hook within 2 hours.

The dead Minnows are a real mystery Mattfab. Sounds like the usual suspect, sunscreen, was not a factor so?? I have been buying all my oologah Minnows at that bait shop for the past two months without a problem. I always get a pound of Tuffies and put them straight into my Engle . By the end of the day I doubt that I lose more than 2-3 to random death. I actually really really like that shop and the folks there, who always bring out their tiny little dogs for my grandkids to pet. As to the teeny Tuffies of late- I don't like em either but the fish don't seem to mind and they survive well on a hook if you hook em through the nose. Last time out 2 of us caught 140 and kept 2 limits of 10-13" fish- all on those tiny Minnows. In the summer I generally buy those rather than shiners just because you get so many more per pound. I have noticed recently that in 3 different bait shops on my way to 3 other lakes those type of minnows are tiny right now so it's a supplier issue which actually costs the retailer money if you think about it. On another note I sure have enjoyed your posts of late and look forward to meeting you on the water. I'm in a white Lund with my Ultrex in Anchor mode so I'm easy to catch up to. You won't find me trolling unless the eyes are on.

Crappie ciller, I think I might have saw you early this year blue creek and also the water pipe cove. Would have been before the Flooding somewhere around a week or 2. I have an old ranger 155a white and blue with a lil johnson... I don't recall what kind of boat but I remember being white/alum/and the gps troller as my dad kept asking how that worked. As for the minnows yeah I don't know never had that issue.

And it's been that way for years. Right now they are so stuffed with shad that they should hit 10" by Labor Day.

Yeah I saw acres of shad. I'm just curious why the average size crappie you catch there isn't bigger?
